Two Receive Promotions in Alumni Affairs
Durham, NC - Robert S. Shepard, Duke's vice president for development and alumni affairs, announced two promotions this month in the Office of Alumni Affairs: Sterly L. Wilder to associate vice president of alumni affairs, from executive director; and George Dorfman to assistant vice president for alumni affairs, from associate director.
"Sterly has done a terrific job in leading the Duke Alumni Association's implementation of its first strategic plan and development of the second strategic plan," Shepard said. "She is a strong and effective advocate for alumni interests and has brought boundless energy and creativity to DAA's programs. Sterly is ably assisted by George, whom she credits with valuable insight, advice and support."
Wilder and Dorfman lead an office that represents the Duke Alumni Association on campus, providing programs and services in Durham and around the world for more than 130,000 alumni. It also publishes Duke Magazine, a bimonthly periodical with a circulation of more than 110,000. The office has a staff of 32.
Wilder was named executive director on January 1, 2005, becoming the first woman to lead the office. After her graduation, she joined the university development office and worked in a number of jobs, including directing the Duke Annual Fund. In that position, she led the formulation of a strategic plan, restructured reunion giving, and established successful programs for parents and students.
Dorfman joined the alumni staff in 1994 and has held a variety of positions, including directing the DAA's regional programs in more than 100 clubs on six continents.
