Durham, NC - The Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau has a new tool for touting Durham to the world, thanks to a partnership with Duke Law School.

A video -- posted on the DCVB site and being used to help attract visitors, newcomers, and relocating executives and businesses to Durham -- originated at Duke Law as a project designed to educate and attract law students and faculty to Duke. The original video was conceived and produced in 2007 by the Law School and the Seattle-based production firm Current Rutledge.

"We created the video to show prospective law students and faculty that Durham is not only home to a great university, but also a vibrant, cosmopolitan, eclectic community that makes living and working at Duke all the more attractive," said Bill Hoye, associate dean for admissions and student affairs at the law school. "We've had a great response to the video, and we're thrilled to share this as a resource with others who are helping to spread the word about Durham."

The video highlights restaurants, shopping, art galleries, the local music scene, sports and recreational activities, and, of course, Duke. Other schools at Duke have adapted it for use in their recruiting efforts.

"Thanks to the generosity of Duke Law, we were able to adapt this video and share it with a much broader audience," said Reyn Bowman, head of DCVB. "The video does a wonderful job of showing why people love visiting or living in Durham, finding it to be a genuine, original, open, and welcoming place."

Duke Law works with many community organizations through its clinical programs, which provide legal aid to low-income residents and nonprofit organizations, and through other service programs. Though most students come to Duke Law from other parts of the country and world, many are eager to be involved in the community while they live here.

"Durham is our home and we are committed to it," said Duke Law Dean David F. Levi. "We are pleased to work with other organizations in the community to show others what a wonderful town Durham is and to help make it an even better place to live, work, and learn."
