Traffic Advisory: City utilities project starts Monday on Erwin Road and Fulton Street
Durham, NC - Starting Monday, March 2, motorists traveling on Erwin Road and Fulton Street near Duke's West Campus and Duke University Hospital may experience traffic congestion and delays as construction begins on a City of Durham utility project.
During the next eight months, Erwin and Fulton will remain open but portions will be narrowed to upgrade city water and sewer lines, according to a City of Durham news release. The project is not expected to disrupt water or sewer service to customers.
Major traffic delays are not expected, but Duke commuters using Erwin Road and Cameron Boulevard are urged to allow more travel time, take extra caution in the construction zone and consider alternate routes. To minimize the impact on traffic, most work will occur outside of peak morning and afternoon driving hours. The project will improve and reinforce the city's utility systems' reliability and are essential to protecting public health, providing fire protection, supporting Durham's economy, and improving the community's quality of life, according to the news release.
To view a map of the area to be affected during the project, visit the city's website at www.durhamnc.gov/departments/wm/pdf/ef_press_release_map.pdf.
Questions or concerns should be directed to Jim Harding with the city's Department of Water Management at 560-4381.
