Duke community invited to Durham Arts Guild fundraiser
Durham, NC - The Durham Art Guild will hold its annual fund-raising event, Sweet Arts 2009, 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7th, in the Durham Arts Council Building (120 Morris Street, downtown Durham).
This year has a Sweet Sixteenth theme as it is the Guild's 16thSweet Arts. The event celebrates Durham's art community by featuring live and silent auctions showcasing works by the regionally and nationally recognized visual artists and craftspeople. It also highlights the Triangle's culinary arts by offering delectable sweets from notable restaurants and luxurious gifts and services from local businesses.
The John Brown Band will perform live jazz throughout the evening. This year Benjamin Farrell brings his unique, entertaining style as a professional art auctioneer, and Duke Provost Peter Lange will be the master of ceremonies.
The live auction features works from local and visiting notables, including Barkley Hendricks, Laura Farrow, Shannon Bueker, Bonnie Campbell and James Porter, as well as a week in Sedona, AZ and a âDay with the Chef of Four Square Restaurant.'
Area businesses have contributed goods for the silent auction. One of the most delicious offerings will be Valentine-themed desserts provided by The Fairview Restaurant at the Washington Duke Inn, Sage & Swift Catering, and Guglhupf Bakery.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. They will be available online after January 5, 2009, at the Guild website.
