Primetime with Coach K

Basketball coach to speak at quarterly employee forum Jan. 22

He's one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history, has won three championships and recently led the United States basketball team back to gold in Beijing. Now, Duke Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski will share some of the secrets of his success at a Primetime forum for Duke employees.

Whether putting together this year's top-5 basketball team or changing the mind-set of how the United States picked members of its basketball team for international success, Coach K has stressed teamwork and leadership as centerpieces to success.

"Building a winning team requires a commitment to a common sense of purpose and to those who are working together to achieve it," Krzyzewski said. "The fundamentals of teamwork apply as much in the classroom and workplace as on the court. When we work together, we can have a greater impact in our work at Duke and the communities we serve."

Krzyzewski will speak during Duke's quarterly Primetime event at noon, Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Griffith Theater on the lower level of the Bryan Center. Sandwiches and refreshments will be provided by Bon Vivant Catering. Duke women's basketball head coach Joanne P. McCallie will also speak at the event about this year's team.

Krzyzewski will talk about his time as coach for the U.S. Olympic team and this year's Blue Devils squad. Coach K will also focus on team building throughout the Duke community and how Duke can lead beyond the basketball court. In addition to his contributions to Duke, Krzyzewski also found Durham's Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center, which helps local at-risk youth achieve academic goals.
