Durham, NC - A Duke University student said he was robbed of a cell phone early Wednesday as he walked along a trail in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.

The male student said he entered the gardens about 6:30 a.m. at the Lewis Street entrance, off Anderson Street, and was walking on a trail when a man approached him and asked for money, according to Duke Police. When told no by the student, the suspect approached the student in a threatening manner with a knife and a struggle ensued, Duke Police said. The suspect then grabbed the student's cell phone, which had fallen on the ground, and fled the scene. The student was not injured.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a slender build and a dark complexion. He was wearing a black ski cap, black gloves, a black hooded jacket and dark sweat pants.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Duke Police at (919) 684-2444.
