DURHAM, NC - Steve Nowicki, dean of undergraduate education, has been given the added title of vice provost for undergraduate education, Provost Peter Lange has announced.

The new title reflects Nowicki's broad range of responsibilities, spanning all undergraduate schools and programs, Lange said. Nowicki, an Anne T. and Robert M. Bass fellow and professor in the departments of biology, psychology and neurobiology, has served as Dean of Undergraduate Education since July 2007, when the job was created to better integrate the academic and social dimensions of the student experience. He is responsible for leading and coordinating the many facets of undergraduate life, including facility improvements that affect undergraduates' academic, residential, recreational and dining experiences.

Nowicki's office includes the Baldwin Scholars Program and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education Donna Lisker, who is co-director of the program. Working with the provost, Nowicki oversees DukeEngage, the Offices of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid, and the Division of Student Affairs on issues involving undergraduates. He also collaborates closely with senior administrators in Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, Pratt School of Engineering and the Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences.
