Duke employees and their family members can get free tickets for football, food, and fun during an Employee Kick-Off Celebration at Duke's inaugural home opener against James Madison.

The Labor Day weekend event, sponsored by Duke Athletics and Human Resources, is a way of saying thanks to employees for their contributions throughout the year. The event is also part of an ongoing campaign to encourage employees to support Duke's athletic teams. A video promoting Duke Football will feature employee groups getting into the action.

"We are all part of Duke, and we want employees to feel pride in this university and its football team," said head football coach David Cutcliffe. "We're committed to developing a successful football program. The coaches and players will bring their best game to the field, and we need our fans, and especially our employees, to come out and bring their best game to the stadium."

The Employee Kick-Off Celebration will begin at 4 p.m. on the K-ville Quad in front of Wilson Recreation Center. Free food, activities and games will be provided for the entire family.

A buffet-style meal including North Carolina pork barbecue, fried chicken, veggie burgers, side dishes and salad will be served. Children can get their faces painted and enjoy inflatable games. Employees can enter game-time raffles for airline tickets, Duke Football jerseys and footballs autographed by Cutcliffe.

As part of the festivities, employees and their families can participate in a new Duke Football tradition called Blue Devil Alley, where fans will gather at 4:30 p.m. and line the alley between Card Gym and Cameron Indoor Stadium as players march across campus to Wallace Wade Stadium.

After Blue Devil Alley, the Kickin Grass band will take the stage on K-ville Quad to play bluegrass music. About an hour before kick-off, the Duke University Marching Band will strike up a pep rally to stoke fan momentum before heading into the stadium.

During the Aug. 30 game and throughout the season, employee groups will be recognized on the field for their many contributions to support Duke.

Employees can reserve free tickets to the pre-game event and football game by visiting www.GoDuke.com/employee. Tickets are limited to six per employee (the employee and five guests), but permission can be obtained for larger groups by calling 681-8738. Employee should bring their Duke ID to pick-up tickets in the Employee Fan Zone the day of the event.

Parking is free in the designated general public lots with a valid 2009 Duke Parking Permit.
