DURHAM, NC - Kristen Greenaway, who has more than 20 years of experience in fundraising and project management, has been appointed director of development and external relations at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, museum director Kimerly Rorschach announced.

Greenaway will play an integral role in shaping initiatives for programming and fundraising at the museum.

"I'm very pleased to have found Kristen, with her fundraising experience, knowledge of international markets and nose for creative partnerships," said Rorschach, the Mary D.B.T. and James H. Semans Director. "Kristen will be centrally involved as the museum grows in its role as a vital cultural resource for university students and faculty, the Durham community and visitors from around the world."

Greenaway began her position on June 23. She is leading efforts to raise funds for the museum's endowment, increase membership and promote public awareness of the museum.

Most recently, Greenaway served as the director of development at Sigma Xi, the scientific research society in Research Triangle Park. Previously, she was director of events and communications at Sally Ride Science, the San Diego-based company founded by the famous astronaut. Her overseas experience includes development and alumni relations positions at RSM Erasmus University in the Netherlands; director of development positions at University College London and at Cambridge University in England.

A native of New Zealand, Greenaway earned a bachelor of arts degree and a master of social science degree at the University of Waikato in New Zealand.

"I'm thrilled to join the Nasher Museum and help build upon its relationships with cultural institutions, art collectors and philanthropists around the world," Greenaway said.

Greenaway succeeds Rebecca D. Swartz, who had been director of development and external relations since July 2005. Swartz helped to launch the new museum and increased fundraising in grant, foundation, corporate and individual gifts. After a brief maternity leave, Swartz will return to the museum in a part-time capacity as manager of special projects in development.
