Chris Kennedy to Serve as Interim Director of Athletics

Roy Bostock will chair national search for Joe Alleva's successor.

The following announcement by Duke President Richard H. Brodhead was made Sunday evening, April 6, two days after Joe Alleva resigned as director of athletics to take a similar post at LSU:

"I'm pleased to announce that Chris Kennedy, senior associate director of athletics, has agreed to serve as interim director of athletics while we conduct a national search for a director of athletics. I am grateful to Chris for his willingness to serve the department and the university at this time. His 31 years of experience in athletics and his broad knowledge of the department and Duke are great assets that he brings to this assignment. I look forward to working with him in the upcoming months.

"The search for a new director of athletics will be chaired by Roy Bostock, Duke alumnus and former trustee. I will be working closely with Roy and seeking advice from key constituencies -- trustees, faculty, athletics staff and coaches, alumni, and student-athletes -- as we form the search committee, which I plan to announce within the next two weeks. The committee will begin work immediately and I hope to announce a new director of athletics by the end of the summer.

"At this time of transition, we are fortunate to have an outstanding athletics department, with coaches and staff who show extraordinary dedication to our students and university. I assure you that I will work closely with Chris to maintain this excellence in the short term and with Roy to identify strong leadership for the future."
