Former Duke Employee Rosalind Kaplan Dies

Rosalind Kaplan, who worked at Duke for 22 years, died Dec. 2.

A native of Washington, D.C., Kaplan worked several times for Duke. She courageously battled breast cancer for 24 years, during which time she traveled to Israel, returned to work at Duke as an administrative secretary and earned a M.A. She also taught a Duke MALS course to adults.

During her fight against cancer, she also hiked down the Grand Canyon, attended a writers' workshop in New Mexico and appeared in news and artistic productions meant to inspire other cancer survivors.

She was also active in Beth El Synagogue and the Hadassah Women's Organization, and volunteered with underprivileged kids in Durham.

Services will be held at Howerton and Bryan Funeral Home, 1005 W. Main St., Durham, N.C., on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at 11 a.m.
