Duke Accepting Applications for Advanced Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership

The Advanced Certificate program consists of three weekend symposia in Durham.

The Duke University Nonprofit Management Program is accepting candidates for its Advanced Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership 2008 program.

The Advanced Certificate program consists of three weekend symposia in Durham. The first symposium, entitled "The Vessel of Leadership," will occur Jan. 24-26, and addresses the principles, ethics and values of the effective leader.

"The complexity of today's nonprofit sector is staggering," said Dionne Greenlee, a consultant with the Nonprofit Management Program. "To excel within such an environment, nonprofit executives must be knowledgeable and competent leaders, armed with tools to strategically prepare for the inevitable changes that impact their organizations.

"Even seasoned nonprofit managers and executives will gain significantly from this program by engaging in activities that foster their emergence as ‘re-energized' leaders."

Admission to the program, which costs $3,600 (includes tuition, materials and meals at all three symposia), is competitive. A three-year grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation allows Duke to offer partial scholarships toward tuition. Scholarships are awarded based upon need and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
