New Climbing Wall Opens in Wilson Center
Belay classes now available
A new climbing wall is now open in Wilson Recreation Center.
Who can climb
All climbers must hold a valid membership to Wilson Rec Center and take a belay certification course that is good for one school year. You must register in advance for belay classes and can do so at the monitor's desk located at the entrance to the center.
Wall Orientation & Belay Certification Classes
Classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and are limited to 16 participants who are registered in advance. The cost of the class is $25 and can only be paid with a flex account. The belay class will cover the following:
Wall administrative procedures
Identify a variety of climbing equipment
Properly put on harness
Connect a belay device and rope to the harness
Tie a figure eight follow through and finish knot
Verbalize belay commands and establish a belay contract with a climber
Belay
Catch an announced and unannounced fall
Lower a climber from the wall
