Manufacturing Error Renders 2008, 2009 Parking Permits Inoperable

Duke permit holders should retain old permits until replacements arrive

Don't throw away your old parking permit.

A manufacturer error has rendered new Duke parking permits for 2007-08 and 2008-09 inoperable. If you already received your new permit, it will not allow access to gated lots. Parking & Transportation Services is asking permit holders to keep and use their 2007 permits until replacements arrive in early September.

"After being notified by the manufacturer of the error, Duke's parking services staff began work to minimize the impact on our customers," said Chuck Catotti, director of Event Management who oversees Parking & Transportation. "We regret any inconvenience this manufacturing error has caused."

Permits holders for Parking Garage I, II, and III are not affected by the encoding error because most of those permits do not have magnetic strips.

If you have already discarded your old permit, temporary gate access corresponding to your upcoming parking lot assignment will be provided by swiping your DukeCard.

"Simply swipe your DukeCard instead of the permit," Catotti said. "But please still display your old permit in your vehicle until your replacement permit arrives."
