Duke Credit Union to Move to Erwin Square

Move will allow more resources to be focused on service through technology

Duke University Federal Credit Union will consolidate their Morreene Road and Guess Road offices into one new main office, credit union officials announced this week. The new location will be at Erwin Square in the building previously named the Wachovia Building, 2200 W. Main Street.

Credit Union CEO Lee Fogle said, "The consolidation into a centrally located main office has been the goal for the credit union the last several years. Our members are telling us that they need more ATMs. Almost 95 percent of credit union transactions are now done remotely via debit cards, ATMs and the Internet. This trend has lessened the need for branches, and has heightened the need for technology."

The new main office at Erwin Square will be approximately 18,000 square feet, and will meet the organization's 10-year needs. Features will be an expanded lobby with an Internet kiosk, coffee bar, ATM and coin machine. Member service and lending areas are being expanded, and the overall appearance will be one of comfort and convenience. The new office will have second floor space for mortgage lending, a new Financial Education Center, and a community conference room. Also, there will be expanded drive-up facilities to include four lanes with two way monitors, a drive-up ATM and a night depository.

"The consolidation of offices means that the credit union will now provide more resources for ATMs and service centers such as the one we have at Duke Hospital. We are very excited about our new abilities to deliver more convenient service to our members," said Fogle. Full service ATMs have recently been placed at Perkins Library on West Campus, and the American Tobacco Campus next to the Durham Bulls ballpark.

In addition, a new Drive-up ATM will be added at Durham Regional Hospital this summer, a service center will be located in Duke Raleigh Hospital by this fall, and the ATM at Duke Clinic is currently being refurbished.

Members will continue to be able to use the Cash points and STAR ATM networks, and more ATMs are planned by the Credit Union for the future throughout the Durham area, including Southern Durham.

The move to the new location was announced at the Credit Union's 39th annual meeting that was held April 25 at the Sarah B. Duke Gardens.

Other items of business conducted at the meeting were reports from officials, and election of new Directors. Directors elected were Todd Leovic, Dorothy Clark, and Steve Smith. Officers elected were Leroy Lee, Chair, Dean Freck, Vice-chair, Sue Creekmuir, Secretary, and Mike Hennessy, Treasurer. Delores Taylor was appointed to the Supervisory Committee.

The Credit Union currently has 16,500 members and $75 million in assets, and is owned by, and serves Duke Staff, Alumni, Retirees, and their families.
