Durham, NC - Duke Chapel and the Duke Religious Life Staff will have an Interfaith Prayer Vigil on the Chapel steps today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. in response to the mass killings at Virginia Tech. We understand that the Virginia Tech community is also gathering at 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum on the Virginia Tech campus. This vigil is a small gesture at being in solidarity with those in Blacksburg. The vigil is designed to be inclusive of people of all faiths and backgrounds.

Sam Wells, dean of the chapel, will offer a brief reflection. There will be a time of silence, a prayer, and the Chapel Carillon will toll one time for each person who died. Following the tolling of the bell, there will be an opportunity for members of the Duke community to say something, should they so desire.

For information, please contact Craig Kocher, assistant dean of the chapel and director of religious life at craig.kocher@duke.edu.
