Saundra F. DeLauder Named American Council on Education Fellow at Duke

DeLauder is interim chairperson of the chemistry department at North Carolina Central University

Saundra F. DeLauder will be an American Council on Education fellow at Duke during the 2006-07 academic year.

John Simon, Duke Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, will be her mentor for the program, which is designed to identify and prepare promising senior faculty and administrators for leadership positions in college and university administration. Fellows, nominated by the presidents of their institutions, are selected in a national competition.

DeLauder, interim chairperson of the chemistry department at North Carolina Central University, earned a Ph.D. in chemistry at Howard University in 1992. She has received a number of fellowships, including the Kodak Fellowship, and has done research at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park in addition to serving as the interim chairperson of the NCCU chemistry department since 2004.
