Jan. 14 Meeting at Duke to Discuss Tsunami Aid

Duke community invited to tsunami relief meeting

A meeting for members of the Duke community who want to learn more about how to aid the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, in Von Canon Hall of the Bryan Center.

This meeting, chaired by student leaders and administrators from the offices of Student Affairs, Community Affairs, Religious Life and the Community Service Center, is designed to ensure that there is a "minimum of duplication as members of the Duke community rise to the occasion and respond to this disaster," said Elaine Madison, director of the Community Service Center.

Topics to be discussed include: fund raising, volunteer service opportunities, research and educational resources, and faith responses from the Duke community.

Duke Medical Center officials also are exploring how medical personnel can assist in the region and will coordinate their efforts with those on the university side.

A list serve has been established for those wanting to know more about Duke's efforts. General information about the mailing list may be found here . To date, about 200 people have signed up for the list serve.

Those who plan to attend Friday's meeting are asked to RSVP to pnobles@duke.edu.
